چکیده

The successful transplantation and serial propa gation of heterologous tumors through successive generations of latoratory animals are sought for experimental purposes. Total-body irradiation of hosts, alone or in combination with cortisone in jections, is now being used to alter the natural immunity of hosts to foreign tissues (1, 10). The discovery by Pillemer that a normal serum euglobulin, properdin, has nonspecific bactericidal, virucidal, and hemolytic activities (4, 6) has sug gested that this globulin might play a role in host resistance to tumor transplantation. Ross and his associates demonstrated that the properdin titer falls to low levels following totalbody irradiation (8). Toolan has demonstrated that total-body irradiation reduces resistance to heterologous tumor transplantation (10). It seemed possible, therefore, that a reduction in properdin titer might aid heterologous tumor growth. Zymosan, the insoluble residue from yeast cells that have been digested with trypsin and ex tracted with water and alcohol, has been demon strated to cause marked reduction in serum properdin levels of laboratory animals (7). It was the purpose of this study to evaluate the effect of zymosan administration on trans plantation and serial propagation of heterologous tumors in rats.

Here, we demonstrated that wedelolactone plays an e...

Background: Polysaccharides have long been used as immune-modulators in various pathologic conditions including inflammation and solid malignancies. Objective: To evaluate the effects of Zymosan and Betaglucan on cytotoxic reactions in an effectortarget conjugate system. Methods: Blood was obtained from 20 healthy subjects; purified mononuclear leukocytes (monocytes and lymphocytes) were extrac...

Nitric Oxide Production and Apoptosis Induction in T Cells through Stimulation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells with Zymosan

Background & Aims: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are non-hematopoietic multipotant cells, which multiply through attaching to culture plates. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are inherent immune sensors and regulators of immunomodulatory activities of MSCs. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of zymosan on stem cell polarization into anti-inflammatory phenotypes through the productio...
